What Do You Think of the Explosion of 'On-Field
Violence' in the NFL?

NOVEMBER 2002 -- The NFL wants to have their cake and eat it too when it comes to on-field violence. I have seen both of these hits run multiple times on ESPN and other sports shows.

Why are they showing it so much?

Because violence sells and the NFL wants to promote that violence. The fines they levy on these athletes only contribute to the fascination that the average fan has for crushing blows. The higher the fine, the more interested the viewer is in wanting to see the action that warranted the financial penalty. And God bless them for it, those money grubbing crackers.

There is no one on this planet, except for maybe Darrell Jackson, who wants the NFL to become less violent. So I say keep up the subversive tactics of penalizing multimillion dollar athletes to promote the unsavory aspects of America's true pastime.

Ostensibly the NFL 'must' punish these vicious on-field hits. But behind closed doors they're applauding them because they know that these types of hits are exactly what puts asses in the seats.

There are many things that don't make sense about the NFL, like ridiculous halftime interviews by chick reporters who know nothing about the game, and gratuitous shots of hot cheerleaders who look utterly confused and just perfunctorily smile and wave their pom-poms when the cameras are rolling.

I envision an NFL like Death Race 2000, where players are rewarded for maiming, paralyzing, or even killing fellow gladiators. After all, these athletes are obscenely overpaid and there should be more of a risk to their health.

Is it me or are many NFL players nowadays more tank than man? Do any offensive lines sport quarter-ton tackles yet?

I am disappointed in life-long Cowboy Darren Woodson. I had always respected Mr. Woodson as a member of that elite corp of early '90s Cowboys who was never once caught snorting coke or cavorting with prostitutes. But seeing him now as a simple helmet-hitting brute makes me question why I ever believed in him, or believed in anything in this world.

Thanks a lot, Darren Woodson. You've totally destroyed my faith in the character-building aspects of football, you stupid jerk!
